Advisory & regulatory

As a specialist, I help clients understand the intricacies of ever-changing regulation and the effects on their business initiatives. In my work I constantly advise companies and shareholders on key compliance aspects of their operations in Bulgaria.

Regulatory risk has become one of the key business concerns with its potential for direct damage both to a company’s financial well-being and to its brand or reputation.

The exponential growth of the Internet, e-commerce, advertising and online activities raise numerous regulatory concerns related to consumer protection and, in particular, contractual rights and obligations, unfair commercial practices, pricing issues and privacy issues. Overall legal and compliance screening can be vital for advertising products and discounts. I can advise on consumer protection compliance and help you:

  • Manage consumer claims where hasty response is of utmost importance;
  • Develop GTCs and related documents for merchants;
  • Represent you before the consumer protection watchdog
  • Litigate against penal decrees or orders issued by the authorities;
  • Perform screening of advertising, promotions and commercial communication for compliance with the legal standards and ethical rules.

I further provide cohesive advice on cases related to key compliances related to employment law. With my experience in this area, you can rely on my support related to:

  • Employment and dismissal of employees;
  • Disciplinary proceedings;
  • Working time and overtime matters;
  • Health & safety at work, rest breaks and leave regulations;
  • Preparation of internal policies that each employer must have in place, teleworking policy for setting up remote work process which meets legal standards.

Each business should understand the need to comply with the competition rules and stay shielded from potential risks. As competition rules around the world evolve to meet changing demands, companies might face new challenges in keeping up with the regulatory requirements. With my strong educational background from King’s College London in the field of EU Competition law and experience in advising clients on various aspects of the competition rules, we can work together to anticipate and avoid potential risks throughout your business initiatives.

I can provide a range of services, including:

  • Preliminary analyses of advertising, commercial communication, promotions campaigns;
  • General consultations on compliance with the legal standards and ethical rules in the area of competition;
  • Competition compliance of your business initiatives and products;
  • Representation before the Commission for Protection of Competition and litigation against sanctions imposed by the competition authorities.

Expertise in anti-money laundering (AML) is one of my key capabilities. AML compliance is a significant risk for both financial institutions and non-financial businesses. Businesses have various duties to disclose their ultimate beneficial owners, monitor, assess, evaluate and report on suspicious activity. Bulgarian authorities may interact with businesses and conduct investigations.

Examples services I offer are:

  • Assistance in customer due diligence and identification of individuals and companies including of the ultimate beneficial owner (UBO) of companies and other legal entities;
  • Consulting on prevention and the development of internal policies, documentation and processes;
  • AML trainings tailored to the needs of businesses and the latest requirements of the regulatory authorities;
  • Serving as local point of contact when required by AML laws.

I also understand that firms and organisations need integrated, prompt and carefully executed solutions to employment and immigration issues when working and/or living across borders.

I’m currently advising both individuals and local companies on acquiring of Bulgarian visas and residence permits. In my work I pay close attention to preparation, guidance and supporting documentation, and I’m also familiar with the practices of the competent authorities and help you avoid pitfalls. Businesses and individuals can rely on accounting, social security and tax advice when I’m assisting people who start or develop a business venture in Bulgaria and/or where individuals relocate on a continued basis in the country.
